It’s Not About The Bunny

Sorry, Easter Bunny, it’s not about you. Between Good Friday and Easter Sunday thousands, if not millions, of kids scurry about to find that elusive Easter Egg. Parents, families and friends will gather to watch their little ones run around with cute little baskets in the age-old tradition of the Easter Egg hunt. While the kids are on the annual hunt, accompanying adults may be enjoying a snack of chocolate bunnies, Cadbury Creme Eggs, or Peeps. Yes the tradition lives on.

Sadly, for many, that is the purpose of Easter. Some folks will be upset because their favorite stores and restaurants display signs that read, “Closed For Easter”. Several working folks may bask in the rest of  a work holiday on Good Friday and take a mini-vacation.

Easter is much more significant than any of those traditions. Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Some may say – ‘Oh, please! You just had to put a spiritual spin on a fun three-day weekend.’ Yes, I did. For if it were not for the resurrection, then God does not exist and the Bible is a fiction.

There is a scarlet thread woven through the Bible that points to Jesus as the only one who has the ability to restore man to his intended purpose. Without Jesus, humanity would be hopeless.

Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Apostle John wrote in John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” This is exactly what Jesus did. The very next verse, Jesus calls us His friend (John 15:13-14).

So, my friend, I ask you – Do you know Jesus as your friend? I certainly hope you do. If Jesus is your friend, will you take a moment to thank him for the unconditional love He demonstrated for you on the cross at Calvary (Rom 5:8)?

If you do not know Jesus as your friend, make today the day you meet Him.

God Loves You!
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

God has a wonderful plan for your life!
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10b)

Because of our sin, we are separated from God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  (Romans 3:23)

The Penalty for our sin is death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

The penalty for our sin was paid by Jesus Christ!

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

If we repent of our sin, then confess and trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will be saved from our sins!

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.  (Romans 10:13)
…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9,10)

Meet Jesus at the cross today.

Tell Him you are sorry for living a life of sin, He will forgive you.
Ask Him to fill your heart with His glorious love – He will give you a new heart.
Ask Him to open your mind the truth of God’s Word – He will renew your mind.
Ask Him to lead you to Bible teaching church where you can share your new-found commitment and learn more about living a life filled with God’s love.

It is my prayer that you truly know Jesus as your friend. If you want to chat more about this, you can contact me by clicking here.

Thanks for stopping by, y’all come back now.

  1. When we were went to the RV dealer early last week to firm up the deal, he told us they would be closed on Good Friday. He relayed that a few years ago someone asked him why he was open Good Friday with him being a Christian and the son of a Baptist preacher. He thought about that and realized the man was right. Closed every Good Friday since. I well remember when lots of businesses closed that day. If not the entire day…. at least between 12 and 3. He said God has blessed his business and he even expanded to a second location last November. A coincidence? I think not.
