Who We Are

Hi – I am Jerry. I believe it is important for our readers to know who we are. Or better stated, what drives us; what is the one thing that motivates us to get going.

For me, it is “making a difference”. I want to make a difference where ever I happen to be. To do that, I have to work my passion.

My modus operandi – If you are not working your passion, you are wasting God’s time. Get a grip!

All my life I thought I wanted to be an engineer, so I traveled down that road. God had a different plan for me. After spending 9 years in the US Army (1967-1976) where I received my basic education in electronics, I worked as an electronic tech in various place. It did not take me long to realize I needed to go back to college if I wanted an engineering job. Six years later, I graduated from University of Houston and had the credentials to work as a software engineer.  After God took me through several job changes from 1985-1995,  I worked as an educator in the corporate sector for 16 year.

During that last 16 years, I finally understood the Curly Principle. You may recall the movie “City Slickers” from a while back starring Billy Crystal and Jack Palance. In it, we observed the story of Mitch (Crystal) who because of a midlife crisis decides to go out with some buddies and rustle cattle for a week. Curly (Palance), the trail boss to whom they report, really seems to have his head together.

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger] This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean shit.
Mitch: But, what is the “one thing?”
Curly: That’s what YOU have to figure out. And no one can do that for you.

Enjoy this clip from the movie.

Be passionate about one thing – then work your passion. Luke 11:34 “therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light’ (KJV)

What’s your one thing?

This is Carol. We’ve been married forever. Well maybe not forever but it has been a long time.

She is a genuine Texan – born and reared in Texas. She always says, “People are reared, cattle are raised.”

In addition to loving me, she loves reading, crafting (especially quilting), and dogs.

If she is not thinking up something for me to do, you can usually find her buried in a book or at her embroidery machine.

She has followed me around since 1967.  I think I’ll keep her.

  4. Had to smile at this because my husband and I reference Curly quite often. I’m guessing it’s an age thing that we share. 🙂

  6. Love your reference to Curly! I was browsing through your list of places you’ve stayed and we have been to a few of the same campgrounds and plan on going to a few others on a future trip. We’re not full timers but love traveling in our fifth wheel. Happy trails!!
