Saturday Morning TV…If You Dare…

Television captures (literally) the audience so commercials can convenience the viewer to buy products. Not sure who coined the phrase “electronic baby sitter” but the phrase fits today’s media. Just think about how this has even morphed itself into DVD players built into cars so the kids in the back seat can be ‘entertained.’ Parenting did not get easier with electronics – just more complicated.

Saturday morning television (and, I’m sure, Sunday through Friday too), is not quite what it used to be in the olden days. Since my grandkids have lived with me, I’ve seen weird talking sponges, bunnies and squirrels using cell phones, human families with wild superpowers, princesses and pirates, and idiotic starfish, to name a few.

Now, I don’t expect it to be much like when I was a kid. With the ease of computers, poppy music, and an overabundance of adorable, obnoxious, little kid actors and actresses, it’s not hard to put together a half hour of babble. There is money to be made in morning TV land, and somewhere there must be a study that says to sell to kids you must be loud, colorful, hip, and overbearing.  It is a sugar-filled, rude, sassy, whirlwind trip through psychedelics…

Inspired By Other Bloggers

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Prov 27:17, NIV)

Bloggers can be inspired by other bloggers. We learn different techniques from each other. Assignment #9, in our Blogging101 course, is to: “write a post that builds on one of the comments you left yesterday. Don’t forget to link to the other blog!”

When leaving a comment on a blog post, the content is more likely to be a concise answer to something that got your attention. By writing a post that builds on that comment, you are engaging in a conversation with the other blog. Thus exchanging thoughts and ideas just as if you were carrying on a conversation with the other blogger. And by including a the post URL (web address)  from the other blog, you create a PingBack. The author is notified that you referenced their blog post. I left comments of 4 blogs, I’ve not commented on in the past. I found a couple that inspired me.

I met Cathy on her blog – Cathy @ Still Waters, Cathy is a classmate in the Blogging101 course. In her post, It’s a changing world . . . , she pointed out that her blog theme had a provision to choose images randomly. And she displayed some of the header images previously used. My comment was that I would consider doing something similar to my blog because I have a large collection of photos of places we’ve traveled. Not all of them are nice panorama’s that would fit into the size restrictions of most themes like the image from Cades Cove I am using now. That inspired me to build my own header images from photos of places we’ve traveled. Thanks, Cathy!

The other inspiration came from Elle at her – Finding Myself Through Writing. Elle inspired me to consider using the re-blog option in here post, And The Story Continues . . . . She described reblogging quickly sharing blog posts that can attract more followers. Think of the rebloging option on WordPress as the Share option on FaceBook. In my comment to her post, I blew off my blog by saying my content was more like rambling than precise thoughts. She replied by saying “Ramblings make the best stories! Keep it up.” Thanks, Elle, I will.

Then, later in the day, I stumbled upon a blog post from the Daily Post – The Web is Your Oyster: Where to Find Free-to-use Images. Rather than share that content by writing a post about it, I click the button and the post’s link appeared as a blog post on my blog with my comments. Shortly after doing that, a long time friend read the reblog. In her comment to the reblogged post, she gave me another resource of free images from morgueFile.

WOW, I think yesterday was a pretty successful day in bloggerville. Now I am ready for my second cup of coffee. You may notice that I changed the blog from dual sidebars to single sidebar and customized the theme’s CSS to widen the post field. Hope you like the change. I appreciate your comments.
