The Cycle of Life

This guest post is from my friend Sandy Fletcher. Sandy and I were in band together at Westbury High School in Houston, TX back in the 60’s. After graduation we went our separate ways and reconnected through Facebook.

I’m thinking of the cycle of life:

  1. Beginning with childhood of course
  2. Moving to deciding what we will be when we grow up during the education years
  3. Starting the independence and first ‘real’ job
  4. To falling in love and marrying (make a mistake here and it affects everything that follows)
  5. Experiencing the joy of the births of children
  6. The busy, busy daily life of happiness and trials of raising your children balanced with work, church, etc
  7. The time of the empty nest
  8. The period of productively using any free time to enjoy yourself and volunteer to help others
  9. Retirement and taking care of elderly parents if you are blessed to have them still with you.
  10. Beginning to see the doctor more often
  11. People being nice to you because you are older (except when you are driving to slow).
  12. Going to more funerals than birthday parties and finding yourself grieving for friends ill or gone, celebrating their lives for being part of yours
  13. Depending on others to help get you through the day
  14. Departing this life for the next phase
  15. Meeting our brothers and sisters in Christ all together, experiencing the love of God that will surround us in our Heavenly home.
  16. An eternity so wonderful the human imagination cannot fathom it. There are no words in any language that can fully help us comprehend how great it will be.

I can look back now since I’m older and see most of these stages behind me . I can see some good and I can see enormous mistakes.

From this moment forward I want to do what is right and what is loving, though I will still make mistakes.

I pray my family and friends and I will keep Jesus as the most important part of our lives no matter what stage of life we may be in. That we will truly pray for each other even when we are far apart. That we will all know and study God’s Word well and apply it to our everyday decisions. That we will understand the holiness of God and be reverent and respectful of Him.

We have all heard the phrase “time flies”. That is so true. There is no guarantee of a tomorrow for us. Our wisest plan is to live all stages of life in view of eternal life. Eternity lasts much longer than this vapor, this mist of our life on earth.

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (KJV)

God bless all my dear family and friends today. Love to you all!

Thank you Sandy for allowing me to post this on Tales From The Wagginmaster.

It makes no difference where you are in the cycle of life. The important thing is to know and serve God in all that you do, think and say.

Thanks for stopping by, y’all come back now.

  1. A wonderful list to go by for the stages of life! I’ve checked quite a few off myself. ~Elle
